Recovering from Setbacks
When working to achieve your goals, you can sometimes face challenges and setbacks that can leave you feeling frustrated or struggling to know where to go next. During these times, it can be easy for you to feel demotivated or like the work you’ve done was pointless or fruitless. When my clients feel this way, I often advise them to look back at the work they’ve done. Taking time to retrace your steps can help you remember your systems or gain new perspective on the challenges you’re facing. It can also give you the opportunity to recognize the hard work and effort that let you achieve the growth that led you to where you are.
Once my clients are reminded of the good work they’ve done, they can approach their current challenge with more confidence. When you are feeling confident in your ability to learn and grow, it becomes much easier to apply your existing skills or learn new ones to address challenges that come your way. If you have a system you trust to move you forward and support with reorienting, this newfound perspective can help you rekindle your forward progression toward your success.
Often, when we face challenges, it can feel like we haven’t made progress or make it feel as though our goals are unreachable. This is not the case. There are many variables that can affect the result of a single situation that may not even have a direct relation to the growth we’ve made. By separating our growth and our process away from the results and looking back on our history, we can rebuild our confidence and gain clarity about our next steps.
